Hi there, newsletter faithful! Thank you all so much for being here and supporting RULES FOR SECOND CHANCES!! Who knew that releasing a debut novel would be so much work? It’s a hot mess over here at North, Inc., but I wanted to say a quick hello before The Big Day. If you’re near Ottawa, Ontario, come on out to my launch event on June 25th at Perfect Books from 7-8:30 PM - I’d love to see you! And it’s not too late to preorder from Perfect Books in Canada and The Last Chapter in the US to receive a signed copy and some stupid hot character art and fun swag:
Here’s an esoteric thing I love about the publishing industry: before publication, the name of your book is spelled in all capital letters. Afterward, you get regular capitalization plus italics, so today is the last time I will be shouting my book title at you. It’s kind of nostalgic, and also kind of a Pinocchio moment where my book becomes a real book in so many ways besides the physical.
I’ve started hearing from book lovers in Canada and the United States who are receiving their copies of RULES - I would love to see yours! Post it and tag me at @mnorthauthor on Instagram, or DM me a pic if you’d prefer for me to repost/share the love on my socials anonymously.
Speaking of sharing love, if you’re planning a post about RULES for release day (or any other day), I’m attaching some downloadable pictures to this newsletter you can use to create fun things in Canva or wherever you prefer to make graphics.
They’re templates, not ready-made graphics — Instagram, in their infinite wisdom, will hide your content if it’s identical to someone else’s. However, if you’re not the graphic-making type, I’ll have a release day post you can share on my Instagram, Threads (and Facebook if I am particularly organized, which is not a sure thing at all). There is NO OBLIGATION whatsoever to make, post, or otherwise do anything! And definitely no obligation to spend money. Some low or no-cost things you can do to support authors are:
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â borrow the book from your public library
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â talk it up to friends, your book club, or your family
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â post about it on social media
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â write a review on Goodreads or Amazon
Thank you again!! I’ll be sending a quick note on publication day if I can get my act together. Getting my act together is all extremely hypothetical at this point! But I’m trying my best, like we all are in these wild times.
WHAT I’M READING
Annabel Monaghan is both one of my favourite authors and one of my favourite people. (You can see her blurb on the front of RULES!) Summer Romance is her latest release, and it’s amazing. Just like the main character, Ali, I felt reawakened and softly, tenderly cared for, and I’m pretty sure I had a brand-new snap in my spine. Coincidentally, Ali is also a hot mess, so I identify with her very strongly at this moment in my life. Hard pants? Never heard of ’em.
Alicia Thompson has been an auto-buy author for me since her first romance, Love in the Time of Serial Killers, and I’m so lucky to have read an advance copy of her newest book, The Art of Catching Feelings. It’s got baseball, pining, and a You’ve Got Mail-style epistolary romance — need I say more? Alicia has beautiful prose, amazing characterization, and emotions so real I have to lie down every once in a while and close my eyes to let it all wash over me.
No one has a fan base as loyal and feral as Jessica Joyce, and for good reason. Her books are devastatingly emotional and liberally filled with some kind of addictive substance that has yet to be identified. The Ex Vows is full of her signature longing and deep, delicious feels. I’ve already read it twice (OKAY three times), and I know I’ll be going back for more. This one releases on July 9th, so preorder now because her first book was sold out in Canada before it even hit the shelves.
And if you love FREE BOOKS, Sarah Brenton may have some copies of her latest novella, Storm Season, available at her newsletter, A Ray of Filthy Sunshine! It’s a banger, folks (and do check the content notes in advance)…
Wishing you every good thing,
lol I did not realize the all caps was an esoteric pre-pub thing because sometimes I still just type my titles that way! for vibes! thank you for your kind words about my book, and I am SO EXCITED that yours will be out!!!!!!!! tomorrow!!!!!!!!!
